in the \letter from john adams to abigail adams,\ which sentence best develops the idea that men oppose equal rights for women?
a. depend on it, we know better than to repeal our masculine systems.
b. after stirring up (others) at last they have stimulated thee to demand new privileges and threaten to rebel.
c. as to your extraordinary code of laws, i cannot but laugh.
d. but your letter was the first intimation that another tribe more numerous and powerful than all the rest were grown discontented.
To determine the sentence that best develops the idea that men oppose equal rights for women, we analyze each option:
- Option A: "Depend on it. We know better than to repeal our Masculine systems." This implies men do not want to give up their "masculine systems" (which likely relate to maintaining power over women), showing opposition to equal rights as they don't want to change the system that gives them dominance.
- Option B: Talks about others being stimulated to demand new privileges and threaten to rebel, but it doesn't specifically relate to men opposing women's equal rights.
- Option C: Is about the "extraordinary Code of Laws" and not laughing, not related to men opposing women's rights.
- Option D: Talks about a "more numerous and powerful" tribe being discontented, not related to men opposing women's equal rights.
