annas older sister has leukemia. in fact anna was born because of her sister because she needed blood, bone marrow, and other things to survive. shes called a designer baby. after years of medical procedures anna has enough when the doctor says her sister needs a kidney transplant, and she decides to sue her parents for medical emancipation. this will essentially kill her sister. a lawyer takes the case, and her mother cant help but be upset. meanwhile, annas older brother who has largely been ignored because of his sisters medical needs continues to act out. their mother wants all of her children alive and happy, and being a former lawyer takes the case against her daughter. through many twists and turns it comes out the anna is acting under her sisters orders because she is tired of fighting to survive. annas lawyer has an epileptic seizure. anna wins. in the end there is a very surprising twist.
