people. he enjoys talking to them and finding out
about them. marcos also has an after-school job. he
takes care of two children who live next door to him.
he really likes helping them play and learn.

marcos sees that he has social interest. he might want to think
about a career as a teacher or child-care provider. he would
probably be most happy in an occupation where he works
with people every day. you will find out how you can get
more information about an occupation in chapter 3.

nurse practitioner
nursing is a career for which there continues to be great
demand. one nursing job that is growing in popularity is nurse
practitioner. a nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has two
to three years additional training. this training allows the nurse
practitioner to take on added responsibilities. a nurse practitioner is
supervised by a doctor. doctors often have nurse practitioners take
medical histories and treat routine problems. a nurse practitioner may
order lab tests and prescribe some medicines. nurse practitioners
work for hospitals and private medical practices. they also work in
nursing homes, womens clinics, and even the peace corps. students
in nurse practitioner programs usually must be registered nurses.
the programs award a masters degree or a certificate.
